Skates, snow and lasers for new Festival of Lights

The countdown is on to the first Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights, which will run over the middle weekend of the school holidays, from Friday, July 13 to Sunday, July 15. Highlights include two days of “ice” skating fun on a large artificial rink, which will be open from 11am to 9pm on the Saturday and 10.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday in Baxter Street, Warkworth. There will also be laser shows between 6 and 9pm on the Saturday, several food trucks and five tonnes of “snow” to play in at the same venue. Festival organiser Murray Chapman is urging shops and businesses throughout the region to string up festive fairy lights for the duration of the festival in a bid to brighten up the district in the depths of winter.
