Motorists travelling through Mangawhai are being advised to expect disruptions over the coming weekends, with part of Mangawhai Road set to close while urgent slip stabilisation works are carried out.
Kaipara District Council said Mangawhai Road between Coal Hill Road and Cames Road will be under a continuous closure from 8pm on Friday, May 22, until 5am on Monday, May 25.
The closure will allow road crews to carry out urgent works and stabilise the slip site currently under repair.
The road will also be closed over the following five weekends, through to June 28, excluding King’s Birthday weekend. Specific closure times for those weekends are yet to be confirmed.
Drivers travelling to or from Auckland are being encouraged to avoid the closure by travelling via Kaiwaka.
For local residents and nearby traffic, detours will be available via Black Swamp Road and Cames Road. However, the Cames Road detour will be restricted to light vehicles, with heavy vehicles required to use the Black Swamp Road route.
