Council shells out extra $170,000

The discovery of ancient shells on the carpark site brought work to a temporary halt. The discovery of middens at the site of the Alamar Crescent carpark upgrade has proved costly for Kaipara District Council. At its meeting last Wednesday (May 28), councillors reluctantly agreed to add another $170,000 to the cost of the project to cover an archaeological assessment, further cultural monitoring and additional contractor claims.
