The Mangawhai Volunteer Fire Brigade will open the station doors to the public on Saturday, June 14, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The morning will feature a tour of the fire station and appliances, a meet and greet with the crew, equipment displays and fun activities for children. There will also be a Q&A session for those interested in joining the brigade and team building activities.

Deputy chief fire officer Austin Jennings says the brigade would love to meet anyone curious about the fire service – from families with children to individuals considering becoming firefighters.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn more, ask questions and meet your community’s fire fighters,” Jennings says. “We’re actively looking for new members to join our team. Whether they are interested in frontline firefighting, support roles or volunteering, we’d love to chat with them on the day. Everyone is welcome.”

Between fires, medicals and the tornado, the Mangawhai brigade has had a busy year so far, responding to more than 100 emergencies up until last week. For perspective, the team’s total turnouts last year was 150.

“From responding to emergencies to community outreach, the team has been working hard to keep everyone safe,” Jennings says.

“Bring the family along to the open day and enjoy getting a behind-the-scenes look at your local fire brigade. It’s a relaxed, friendly environment – and who knows, it might just inspire someone to join our crew!”

The station is located at 197 Molesworth Drive.
