Insley causeway on the road to repair

Erosion along Insley Street’s causeway is one step closer to being repaired now that Kaipara District Council has successfully secured an NZTA subsidy. Last winter, members of the public were concerned about the gradual deterioration along the eastern bank of the causeway and notified council, as well as local media (see Mangawhai Focus Sept 23). Multiple crevices have undermined the road, undercutting the tarmac and bringing the busy stretch perilously close to the water’s edge. To mitigate further erosion, council confirmed that a solution will likely include a seawall structure and it is currently working on detailed designs. Once completed, a construction contract will be awarded.
