New Zealand’s newest citizens have been welcomed to Kaipara at a ceremony celebrating the cultures, experiences and contributions they bring to the district.
The individuals come from 16 nations, spanning five continents.
Kaipara District Council Mayor Larsen said citizenship ceremonies are a special opportunity to celebrate those who have chosen Kaipara as their home and the contribution they make to the district’s diverse community.
“It is a real privilege to share this milestone with our newest citizens. Each person brings their own story, culture and experience to Kaipara, and together they make our communities stronger, richer and more connected,” he said.
“We are delighted to welcome them as New Zealanders.”
During the ceremony, each new citizen recited the oath or affirmation of allegiance to New Zealand, marking the final step on their journey to citizenship.
One of the new citizens, Madara, originally from Latvia, said the ceremony brought her journey into focus.
“It’s a very special day. I’ve been reminiscing about my time in New Zealand and how far I’ve come from when I arrived nearly 10 years ago.
“I’ve started a business here; I’ve bought my house here. It’s a special affirmation; it’s my home now.”
