A two-day working bee will be held at the Mangawhai Community Park (MCP) this month.
The large-scale restoration event is being led by the Friends of Mangawhai Community Park and partners Kaipara District Council.
The 14-hectare park is bounded by the Mangawhai Museum and Mangawhai Golf Club, and incorporates the Mangawhai Activity Zone, the Historic Village and emergency services.
The focus of the clean-up will be on weed control and general park habitat enhancement, necessary work to keep the area safe and welcoming, Piroa Conservation Trust member Adele Mangnall says.
“The park is a place of joy and relaxation for our community, it’s a cherished natural space,” Mangnall says. “The working bee is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and make a real difference in this beloved park, in the heart of our beautiful town.”
Registrations of interest are now open and volunteers will be treated to a ‘thank you’ BBQ following the clean-up.
“The working bee is a great opportunity to involve all ages. As it takes place in the school holidays, it could be a perfect family activity, allowing everyone to contribute and have fun together.”
Mangawhai Community Park working bee organisers include Friends of Mangawhai Community Park, Piroa Conservation Trust, Mangawhai Club, Mangawhai Bowls, Mangawhai Golf Club, St John, Fire & Emergency Mangawhai, Mangawhai Activity Zone, Mangawhai Museum, the Daring Trust, Mangawhai Information Centre, Mangawhai Historic Village, Mangawhai Movies, Mangawhai Tracks Trust, and local businesses B&A Urban Planning/Design and Landscape Architecture, Maven Engineering, and Survey & Land Development, as well as Kaipara District Council.
The working bee will be held on April 13 and 14, from 9am to midday.
