Mangawhai Road repairs update

A section of Mangawhai Road has recently received safety upgrades to help drivers navigate a power pole, which has stood in the middle of the road since 2023. Following local concerns expressed on social media about some drivers going the wrong way around the concrete pole, Kaipara District Council (KDC) contractors applied new road markings and attached orange ‘hit sticks’ around the troublesome section on May 29.

The stretch of main road, between Avocado Lane and Paul Road, suffered a major slip after Cyclone Gabrielle. Repairs included a realignment of the road with a new lane created around the power pole, which originally stood along the western roadside. A KDC spokesperson says the Mangawhai Road slip area is one of the more complex repairs on their schedule, and council is working with Vector on the relocation of three affected power poles, as well as viewing contractors’ estimates for permanent road repairs.
