Police are investigating a series of commercial burglaries in Kaiwaka after four break-ins were reported at businesses along State Highway 1 this week, with cash and alcohol believed to be the main targets.
Police said the burglaries were reported between May 11 and 14 and involved commercial premises located along the main highway through Kaiwaka. Businesses targeted included Spice Lounge, Tulip Café and Three Furlongs.
Senior Sergeant Roger Small, Waitematā Police, said an increased police presence will be visible in the area while enquiries continue.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

According to Crime Stats NZ, Kaiwaka has an annual crime rate of 29.2 offences per 1000 residents, ranking it 62nd in the Northland region.
Crime in the area has increased in recent years, with peaks recorded in December 2022, November 2024 and January 2025. A total of 72 offences were recorded between April 2025 and March 2026, with theft making up 44.4% of offences, followed by burglary at 34.7% and assault at 18.1%.
