Police are appealing for information after a 1.4-metre wooden sculpture inlaid with glass birds was stolen from the Hundertwasser Art Centre in Whangārei.
Tiori Toru was removed from the centre’s grounds at about 3.15am on August 24, with the offender reportedly leaving the scene on a bicycle.
Senior Sergeant Charmaine Smith, Whangārei Area Response Manager, said the offender left the scene on a bike and the sculpture has not yet been located.
“While enquiries are ongoing, we are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for the theft.
“Police want to ensure the sculpture is safely returned to its rightful spot.”
The wooden sculpture is approximately 1.4m x 600mm and is inlaid with glass birds.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity near the Whangārei Town Basin in the early hours of 24 August.
Those with information are asked to contact Police through 105 online or by phone, referencing file number 260824/0597.
