A jiu-jitsu holiday programme at Mangawhai Beach School starts today, January 26, and runs until January 29, from 10am to midday.
The programme is open to children aged five to 13, and is suitable for all experience levels.
Head coach Toby Gibb, of Midway Jiu-Jitsu, who is also a teacher at Mangawhai Beach, says jiu-jitsu teaches children how to stay calm in difficult situations and approach challenges with a growth mindset.
“Kids develop confidence in themselves and their bodies, learning to move with control, coordination and awareness,” he says. “Sessions are fun, active, and game-based, using lots of movement to help children learn and develop the foundations of jiu-jitsu in a safe and supportive environment.”
The cost is $30 a day, and families are welcome to book individual days – there is no requirement to attend the full programme.
