Pink breakfast pulls pennies

The Breast Cancer Foundation NZ is $2800 better off following a successful pink breakfast run by the Warkworth police.

A total of 150 people packed into the Warkworth RSA on June 1 to raise money for the cause and were served breakfast by police officers dressed in pink uniforms.

Ian Morrison made a huge contribution to the funds when youth aid officer John Williams pressed him to bid $1000 at the auction for a shopping voucher.

The breakfast was also attended by deputy police commissioner Wallace Haumaha and Waitemata District Commander Tusha Penny.

Warkworth Police officer Katie Burton, a survivor of breast cancer and organiser of the breakfast, says she was blown away by the generosity of those who took part after selling out of tickets in just two days.

“Because of how well things went, we are hoping to make this an annual event,” Katie says.
