Plans are moving forward to turn the top floor of this building into 13 apartments.
Auckland Council has granted resource consent that allows the upper floor of the building at 54–56 Rawhiti Road, Manly, to be converted from restaurant and office space into residential apartments. The plans by the building’s owner Pamber (Auckland) to change the use of the upper floor of the building from commercial to residential were first made public by Hibiscus Matters two years ago.
Resource consent was signed off by the Council last month.
The plan proposes to retain commercial space on the ground floor, where a Chinese Restaurant, new Mediterranean restaurant (yet to open), Manly Medical Centre and café are located. The Thai restaurant currently on the first floor will relocate to the ground floor.
This will allow the upper floor to be converted into apartments including removing some exterior stairs, building additional balconies, new glazing, spouting and balustrades. Originally the construction of seven apartments was suggested but the latest plan has almost doubled that, to 13 apartments in total.
