Eight cases at Wellsford centre

The total number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 at the Community Based Assessment Centre (CBAC) in Wellsford has risen to eight.

This includes the four previously reported by Mahurangi Matters.

Coast to Coast Health spokesperson Dr Tim Malloy said this morning that the numbers testing positive were slightly lower than might have been expected considering the prevalence of Covid-19 in the wider Auckland region.

Dr Malloy said it was also good news to see more and more people coming forward for testing. The Wellsford centre is currently testing around 40 people a day.

“The more people we test, the more likely we are going to detect Covid-19. But it’s clearly very good news if we don’t,” he said.

Dr Malloy said none of the patients who had tested positive had had to be hospitalised and none had any connection with each other.

All the positive cases had links to overseas travel.

The Wellsford CBAC is the only Covid-19 testing centre between Warkworth and the Brynderwyns.
