Family honours

The McLintock family’s fence.

Gulf Harbour resident Krissy McLintock says the family is gutted that her grandfather can’t celebrate his 105th birthday with them next month, so they made an Anzac remembrance on their front fence in his honour.

Krissy’s grandfather, John Goddard, lives in a rest-home in Henderson. He was born in England but has lived in New Zealand almost all his life.

He served in the medical corps during World War II and qualified as a nurse in 1947.

John is a self-taught artist and over the years taught many others to paint.

Krissy says she is inspired by his ‘can do’ attitude, which included making his own little merry-go-round using parts from an old washing machine, and hand carving all the horses.
