Before Anytime Fitness opened in the New World Whangaparaoa complex, it already had members signed up and keen to begin working out on the latest machines.
No one was happier to see that happen than owners Michael McLachlan and Mollidy Ken whose interest in becoming Anytime Fitness franchisees began at the end of 2014, after they returned from travels in South East Asia.
“We were looking for our next adventure,” Mollidy says.
The couple are both keen gym goers and in fact met at a gym in Hamilton, but owning their own gym was a big step to take. Michael has owned small businesses before but his expertise is in film and television, while Mollidy has worked for a family bakery and as a graphic designer.
Both had experience with Anytime Fitness and decided to dive a little deeper to get a real feel for what it offered.
They were taken with the club-like culture created between members and staff, and the friendly and safe atmosphere, combined with top of the line equipment and security. Michael says that once they visited the Coast, they were excited and the decision was made. They moved to Arkles Bay three months ago and Anytime Fitness Whangaparaoa opened on January 20.
The two personal trainers who provide members of Anytime Fitness Whangaparaoa with support, orientations and programmes, Brad Ramsey and Channelle Marshall, are both locals. Members swipe their own access key to enter the gym at any time.
Anytime Fitness has more than 3000 clubs operating around the world (24 in New Zealand). Members can access any of them and the Whangaparaoa gym is proving popular – especially for people who travel a lot, or work in town and can now choose to go to the Auckland or Whangaparaoa Anytime Fitness for their workout.
Michael and Mollidy say that their priority is to offer a supportive, friendly, safe environment to help people reach their goals.
“It’s important to feel that support and encouragement.”
