A free money management course starts in Wellsford next month. The 20-week, government-funded course is to help students develop financial literacy skills.
It will run from July 21, every Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm, and is free for all NZ residents who have left high school.
Each week people will learn practical money management skills, including banking and insurance, personal money habits, saving for retirement and investment options, including property investment.
All course materials are provided for free and students graduate with 60 NZQA Level 3 credits in money management.
The course is run by Pennys Worth, which has run the same course on the North Shore for five years.
Co-director Bill O’Meara says it is perfect for anyone who wants to start saving.
“A lot of people have made mistakes with their money in the past. This is a way for people to learn to prevent those mistakes happening,” Mr O’Meara says. “We have a lot of people who want to own their own home and want to learn skills to make that possible.”
The course comes on the back of the successful business management course, which the company has been running in Wellsford for the past couple of years.
