  • The name Maungaturoto translated from Te Reo means mountain standing in a lake or lagoon.
  • The first European Settlers were Albertlanders who came to the Wellsford area from England in 1863 to set up a non-conformist breakaway group from the Anglican Church.
  • They first arrived at the ‘the landing’, an estuary which runs up to what is now Bickerstaffe Road.
