The latest round of grants from the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board for 2017/18 saw 52 applications, requesting a total of $448,308. In total, $138,700 was granted to 33 organisations.
The Hibiscus Coast Youth Council received one of the largest single grants, of $10,000. Originally the organisation, which runs the Youth Centre in Orewa, applied for $20,000 and was granted $5000. Intervention by local board member Caitlin Watson saw this doubled, when she made a plea for the good work done by the Youth Centre, and its need for support.
Local groups that received grants are:
- Sport Limited, $1200 towards costs of hockey project at Orewa College
- Centrestage Theatre, $5000 towards lighting for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
- Hibiscus Petanque, $5000 towards costs of building a petanque terrain at 214 Hibiscus Highway, Orewa
- Coast Youth Community Trust, $5000 for youth worker programmes in Whangaparaoa
- Stage 51 Ltd, $5000 towards costs of Christmas event at Western Reserve, Orewa on December 23
- Harbour Sport Trust $5000 for costs of Shore to Shore Fun Run/Walk
- Hibiscus Coast Youth Council Inc, $10,000 for costs associated with youth development, mentoring, health and safety approvals and operational support
- Whangaparaoa Tennis Club, $4000 for court lighting upgrade
- Love Soup Hibiscus Coast, $2500 for transport and operational costs
- Eave’s Bush Appreciation Group, $1500 for educational signs
- Rodney Aphasia Group, $2000 towards an administrator
- Estuary Arts Charitable Trust, $2000 for volunteer training and facilitation costs
- Hibiscus Coast Softball Club, $1000 for secure equipment storage and IT upgrade
- Okura Forest Festival, $5000 for event running costs
- Hibiscus Rodders, $10,000 for traffic management at Beach Festival
- Beach Series, $5000 towards costs of managing water safety at the Orewa Beach Series
