Police in Mangawhai are making further enquiries after two males in an SUV approached an Otamatea High School student on her way home from a bus stop

The incident happened near Browns Road, Hakaru, last Friday, about 4.30pm.

After the female student got off the bus, she was approached by an older style SUV and the two male occupants asked her if she wanted a ride.

The vehicle was described as messy inside and it had a spare wheel on the rear of the vehicle that had no covering. The occupants were described as Caucasian males, aged about 30.

When the vehicle approached it was driving very slowly. Only when a neighbour approached the student in their own vehicle, to see what was going on, did the SUV drive off.

Senior Constable Rob Cato says it is probably a timely reminder for schools to have discussions with bus drivers, pupils and parents.
