Police wary as Crate Day looms

Rodney Police are asking for responsible behaviour from those attending Crate Day, on December 3 and have asked that it be moved from Manly Beach.

Rodney Area Commander, Inspector Mark Fergus says that holding it at Manly has, in the past, led to minor disorder, safety concerns by residents and large amounts of litter left behind. “The location is unsuitable for such a gathering, and this has been communicated to those who attend,” Inspector Fergus says.

He says although Police don’t condone the event or have any involvement in the organisation of it, they have taken a sensible approach to ensure the safety of everyone, providing advice and ground rules.

“Providing guidance to the organisers will set out fair standards and clearly outline the behaviour Police and the public will expect of people attending the events,” he says. “Extra local police will be working that day, to help ensure everyone keeps safe and acts responsibly, in accordance with liquor laws, as well as enforcing the evening liquor ban.” Police will encourage people to move on around 6pm to comply with liquor ban restrictions.

He says anyone going to Crate Day should note the following:

  • Have a good time but take care of your mates and act responsibly
  • Remember that under-age drinkers will be removed and fined
  • Alcohol-related disorder or associated behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Police will conduct breath-testing checkpoints near the event.
  • Respect that beaches are public locations.
