Two men were rescued this morning after crashing their boat onto rocks at Kawau Island, just after 11pm last night.
The two men were fishing near Nelson Rock, on the eastern side of Kawau, and were heading back to their car on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula about 11pm when their stabicraft boat hit rocks on Little Markham Island, at the southern end of Kawau.
Maritime unit response coordinator Sergeant Graham Jex says the men spent the night on the rocks as they were unable to make an emergency call due to a faulty radio.
But the radio started transmitting at 5.23am this morning and Police, Coastguard and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were dispatched. The pair was rescued by the Police response boat Deodar.
One of the men has been hospitalised with minor injuries while the other has only minor injuries and has been released.
Police are not releasing the names of the men until next of kin have been informed.
The boat will be recovered later today.
