Demolition of the iconic Waiwera Thermal Resort is due to start this morning.
The resort has been closed since 2018 and all attempts to sell, lease or set-up a partnership arrangement have so far failed.
Landowner Urban Partners said, in the media release issued this morning, that the demolition process was bittersweet as it represented the end of an era but also the beginning of Waiwera’s revitalisation.
Chief executive Greig Staples says the 1.7 hectare resort has long been a place of fond memories and nostalgia for many Kiwis.
