Warkworth urgent health clinic opens

A new urgent health clinic for Warkworth will open tomorrow (Wednesday, April 29).

The clinic will operate from the Rodney Surgical Centre building in Morrison Drive and be open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

The new facility will be operated by Wellsford-based primary care service Coast to Coast Health Care and will be known as Coast to Coast Health Care Warkworth.

The clinic will provide urgent medical assessment for people in the Mahurangi area who previously had to drive to the 24-hour clinic in Wellsford or North Shore Hospital.

The clinic will be modelled on accident and medical clinics found in metropolitan areas that treat most complaints, but patients who require surgery will still need to go to North Shore Hospital, and patients who require testing for Covid-19 will continue to be directed to the Community Based Assessment Centre in Wellsford.

Coast to Coast director Dr Tim Malloy says it is good to be able to provide an extra health service to Warkworth with the country now at Alert Level 3 and demand for services likely to be higher than at Level 4.

Two doctors and two nurses will staff the clinic during opening hours.

Because of the current Covid-19 restrictions, Dr Malloy says the clinic will attempt to conduct as many consultations as possible virtually, although face-to-face consultations will be possible if necessary.

To facilitate this, those wishing to use the clinic services should call ahead first on 425-8585. If it’s deemed necessary for a patient to attend the clinic, times will be coordinated so that patients are not breaching social distancing rules in the waiting room.

Initially, the clinic will be able to conduct only medical consultations, but as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, its services will expand as more equipment can be brought on site.

It is expected the clinic will ultimately include a pharmacy, x-ray unit, physiotherapy room and laboratory.
