Residents on the Hibiscus Coast are being reminded that sometimes the best support doesn’t come from a screen – it comes from a real conversation.
The Citizens Advice Bureau Hibiscus Coast is marking CAB Awareness Week from March 9 to 15 with the theme “Real people, real support.” In a world where more and more services are moving online, the local bureau is highlighting something increasingly valuable: the chance to speak to a real person who will listen.
For many in our community, navigating issues like renting, employment, relationship challenges, immigration questions or consumer problems can feel overwhelming. While information may be easy to find online, understanding your rights and knowing your next steps is not always straightforward. That’s where CAB comes in.
At CAB Hibiscus Coast, support is free, confidential and non-judgemental. Trained volunteers take the time to listen and provide clear information and practical advice. They help people understand their options, connect them with specialist services if needed, and empower them to move forward with confidence.
Importantly, CAB’s services are available to everyone. You don’t need to be a New Zealand citizen or resident to seek help. If you’re unsure where to turn, CAB encourages you to simply ask.
Locals can get in touch in whatever way suits them best: by calling the freephone 0800 367 222, dropping in daily to the Ōrewa office, visiting the weekly outreach clinic at Whangaparāoa Library (no appointment needed), or accessing support online at cab.org.nz.
Behind the service is a dedicated team of volunteers who are passionate about making a difference. They are trained and supported to provide high-quality information and advice, and they play a vital role not only in helping individuals, but also in strengthening the wider community. Insights gathered from CAB’s nationwide work are used to advocate for fairer laws, policies and services that uphold people’s rights and wellbeing.
For those who enjoy working with people and want to give back, CAB Hibiscus Coast is also welcoming new volunteers. It’s an opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience, work alongside a diverse and committed team, and make a meaningful impact close to home.
This CAB Awareness Week, the message is simple: when you need support, you don’t have to face things alone. Real people are here to help.
