History – Be part of something timeless

Hidden away in Parry Kauri Park, Warkworth Museum is one of the town’s quiet treasures. Beyond the museum’s doors you’ll find more than historic objects – you’ll find a welcoming community of volunteers who enjoy working together to keep our local stories alive.

Every photograph, artefact and document at Warkworth Museum tells a story about who we are and where we’ve come from. Our volunteers help make sure those stories are cared for, shared and accessible – not just for today’s visitors, but for future generations, too.

Now, the museum is calling on the community to help continue this work.

We’re looking for people who would like to be part of a friendly, supportive team and enjoy doing something meaningful with their time. Volunteering at the museum offers connection, learning and the satisfaction of contributing to our heritage. Some roles involve welcoming visitors and engaging with the public, while others happen quietly behind the scenes – all with training, support and a strong sense of shared purpose.

There are several volunteer opportunities available now. We need volunteers to staff the reception, museum shop, plant shop, artifacts store and museum op shop, organise the fundraising bingo, help with IT support and cataloguing and digitising, an object photographer, social media and content coordinator, and someone to help with the education and public programmes

We’re hosting an informal information session at the museum on Wednesday March 11, starting at 11am.

This is a great chance to meet our team, discover what the museum does and who we are, and ask questions about volunteering. There’s no pressure to sign up, but application forms will be available to take away if you decide it’s something you’d like to pursue.

Volunteers are the backbone of Warkworth Museum. We rely on them to care for our collections and ensure the museum can operate and share our stories with the community. The challenges facing museums today are real, but so is the power of a community coming together to look after its treasures.
