Bookings backwards
It has come to my attention that future bookings of Auckland Council venues, including the old Masonic Hall, Shoesmith Hall and Warkworth Town Hall, beyond June 2027 are very problematic for local community groups, local businesses, as well as wedding and one-off event planners (MM Feb 16).
The Auckland Council venue hire online system, for bookings from July 2026 to June 2027, opens online on March 3, at 9am. Any hall bookings from July 2027 onwards will only become available from March 1, 2027. What a ridiculous situation.
Any group or individual wanting to book an Auckland Council venue for a full year of events or productions or learning programmes in 2027 will only be able to secure and confirm their dates up to June and then hope for the rest. Impossible.
For the money charged for the hire of council local halls on a regular basis, this is a very poor service.
Don’t they want people to use their facilities? Surely they want more bookings not less?
This system will encourage people and groups to find alternative venues with more realistic booking systems and year-to-year service. Come on Auckland Council, you can do better!
