Waiwera wellness?
I’m so pleased that the wasteland that was once our wonderful Waiwera hot pools is being brought back to life. But a wellness hub? My first thought was, ‘What’s there for the kids?’ Then got to page eight (MM, Dec 8) and the cartoonist echoed my own thoughts. This was a great day out for families. Oh, the birthday parties we had there (once all the kids could swim)! We could take our own food and hire a barbeque, all for an affordable cost. The black hole waterslide incurred a few bruises, but who doesn’t love a challenge and an adrenaline rush! It terrified the bejesus out of my kids, but they still did it. And now? The artist’s impression makes it look like somewhere pretentious. My kids have grown up now, but I do feel for young families.
