Compulsory reading
Greg Sayers’ Viewpoint (MM Sept 28) should be compulsory reading for any voter in the forthcoming election. It is painfully obvious that the Fast-Track legislation is full of holes and is going to prove a fantastically expensive piece of legislation that the developers will profit from and the ratepayers will face massive bills to sort out. Thank you, Chris Bishop!
Yours in disgust.

Sandspit camping
Lovely spot, camped there in 1968, peaceful and so near the lapping waves. And that is now the problem – the waves. Actually more the way they are getting higher. Your gorgeous pictures (MM Oct 12) showed how close to topping the little wall the high tide gets when calm. I consider that Auckland Council is taking a wise approach as sea level continues to rise. When, not if, the Antarctic glaciers proceed to melt, the potential for sea level rise is estimated to be as much as seven meters We are witnessing the beginning of retreat from coastal low lying areas.
