The weather was near-perfect for the annual charity bowls day held at Warkworth Bowls in Mill Lane.
Bowlers rolled up in force for the annual Warkworth Bowls charity tournament, held on October 14.Twenty-six teams made up of any combination of three bowlers competed, representing clubs from Wellsford, Orewa, Mairangi Bay, Mahurangi East, Mt Wellington and Omaha.
The Warkworth team of Stewart Macdonald (skip), Bill Lequesne and Betty Browne walked away the winners on the day.
Tournament organiser John Hurdley was happy with the day’s fundraising, which amounted to just over $1000. The money will be donated to the Warkworth Wellsford Hospice building fund.
“The bowlers had a great day and that’s the most we’ve ever raised so it was a very successful day on both counts,” he said.
John thanked sponsors Timberworld, Barfoot & Thompson, and Leigh Fisheries.
New players are always welcome at the club and can turn up on any Monday or Thursday afternoon to have a go.
