Stanmore Bay cricketer Brandon Matzopoulos has been named in the New Zealand squad for the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which gets under way on January 15.
A top-order batsman, Matzopoulos has captained the Westlake Boys High School First XI and Auckland Under-17 team, with the Auckland side winning the national championships last year. He has also represented Auckland Under-19 and East Coast Bays Cricket Club.
Known for his game awareness and leadership, Matzopoulos has produced consistent performances across domestic age-group competitions.
He describes his selection as “a massive honour and the highlight of my cricket journey so far”.
The team travels to Africa later this month, with Matzopoulos focused on contributing on the field and gaining experience at international level.
