After amassing eight goals in two previous cup games, Warkworth’s performance was well short of the usual mark against Kerikeri.
The Warkworth Football men’s first team were brought down at the second to last hurdle of the Federation One Cup recently, losing the semi-final 2-0 to Kerikeri in extra time. The match was played at Kaipara Flats’ Bourne Dean Domain in difficult conditions, where Kerikeri had the upper hand for the majority of the game, sealing victory with a late penalty.
“I think we got a bit of stage fright and overdid things,” Warkworth manager Cam Gray says.
“It’s do or die in cup football and you die if you try and do too much, which is what we did.”
Their last home game of the league season will be at Shoesmith Domain, August 27, 2.45pm against UniMount Bohemians.
