Champion surf ski paddler, and Red Beach Surf Club member Rachel Clarke was named NZ Police Association Sportsperson of the Year at a ceremony on June 23.
Constable Clarke, 25, is currently ranked number one in the world in her sport and has her sights set on winning this year’s World Surf Ski Series.
The award was presented to Rachel by Police Association president Greg O’Connor at North Shore Policing Centre where Rachel is based.
“Police all feel a bit of pride when we see one of our own not only achieving internationally, but showing such guts and determination in doing so,” Mr O’Connor said. He said that the sheer hard work and personal sacrifices she makes in order to combine top sports performance with frontline police work earn her great respect from her colleagues.
