The Salt Estuary Challenge, a fundraiser for the Salt Community Trust, raised more than $30,000 on Sunday, May 25.
More than 100 local runners registered for the event, with around 300 community members supporting their efforts through donations and sponsorships. Participants came from across the Coast, from the Mums and Bubs Coffee Group Pram Team to, workplaces, families, and solo runners.
Entrants could choose from six challenge options, with some completing up to six laps around the Millwater–Ōrewa Te Ara Tahuna Estuary.
Salt spokesperson Michelle Squire said she was thrilled with the turnout.
“It was a wonderful day and a great success, especially as a first-time event,” she said.
Buoyed by this success, the Trust hopes to make the Estuary Challenge a regular fixture on the Coast calendar. For people keen to join the next event, Salt encourages them to follow the Trust’s social media pages for updates.
The Salt Community Trust supports local children, youth, and whānau. Alongside its food bank programme for families in need, the Trust runs school programmes led by youth workers to support the development of school-aged children. These initiatives are funded through community op shops, donations, and events like the Estuary Challenge.
