Top tournament a victim of Red

The NZ PGA championship, which had been scheduled to take place at Gulf Harbour Country Club in two months’ time, has been cancelled due to Covid-19 event restrictions.

The NZ PGA championship is part of the PGA Tour of Australasia and attracts some of the region’s best golfing talent. It is the second biggest golf tournament in the country (the NZ Open is the biggest) and was to be staged on April 7-10, a week after the NZ Open.

Last week’s decision by the organisers of the NZ Open to cancel that event put the final nail in the Gulf Harbour event’s coffin.

Organising committee member Dominic Sainsbury says it is very disappointing for the club but that the event could take place next year instead.
