Zone day victories for Whangaparāoa College

Two Whangaparāoa College rugby teams returned with gold and silver medals from the North Harbour Girls Rugby Zone Day held earlier this month.

The college fielded teams in the Under 55kg and Open Weight grades, with both reaching their respective finals against secondary schools from across the North Harbour zone.

The Open Weight side, went unbeaten throughout pool play before winning their semifinal and then the final to be crowned North Harbour Open Weight Champions.

The Under 55kg team after winning all but one of their games, they reached the final but lost to Northcote College, finishing as runners-up.

Open weight team member Daisy-Mae O’Brien, says that the she’s proud of both teams for playing with heart, energy and teamwork.

“There were tough moments, great tries, big tackles, and heaps of laughs that made the whole day unforgettable,” Daisy says.
