Two builders with almost 50 years of expert building experience between them are bringing Landmark Homes’ Design and Build services to Mangawhai and the wider Northland region.
Landmark Homes Northland is co-owned by builders Sam Onnes and Ben Holwerda, who have worked together since 2019. The pair say their passion for bespoke design, complementary skills and shared focus on quality have made them a strong team.
“We’ve worked side by side since day one, and we know exactly where each of us is strongest,” Onnes says.
“Ben’s brilliant with people. He’s got a knack for understanding their vision. I’m usually the one looking at things from a different angle and figuring out how to make it happen.”
Onnes has worked across commercial, residential and bespoke building projects in New Zealand and overseas, while Holwerda founded Auckland-based BH Construction in 2005.
The pair were already building in Northland when the Landmark opportunity arose. They say Mangawhai was a natural base because of its growth, community and the fact it already felt like home.
The franchise covers Mangawhai to Cape Reinga, with established project managers and building teams in place and offers Landmark’s full range, from considered Ready to Build plans to fully bespoke Design and Build.
Onnes and Holwerda say their aim is to make the building process clear and enjoyable. They begin by taking the time to understand how their clients live and what matters to them, then explain each step and remain involved throughout the build.
“We don’t bring problems without solutions,” Holwerda says.
For the pair, design is where a Landmark home begins. Plans are a starting point, never a restriction, and each home is shaped around the people who will live in it.
“We want to be known for doing things right: thoughtful design, good communication and homes people love for years to come. Solid work, genuine relationships and homes that feel right.”
