Female firefighters launch first New Zealand calendar

A group of New Zealand’s female career firefighters has launched the country’s first all-women firefighter calendar to raise funds for breast-cancer research.

The Wāhine Toa Firefighter Calendar features 13 firefighters from nine stations across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. All proceeds go to Breast Cancer Cure, supporting research into improving treatment and survival rates in New Zealand.

The project was led by Auckland firefighters Nicole Koch and Zoe Feau, who wanted to highlight the small but growing number of women working in the fire service. Women make up about six per cent of New Zealand’s career firefighters.

The calendar, which celebrates strength, teamwork and community, is the first of its kind in the country.

Copies cost $30 and can be ordered through www.breastcancercure.org.nz or at participating fire stations nationwide.
