A former Black Fern and Mahurangi College student has been picked for the cover of New Zealand’s first all-female firefighter calendar.
Becky Wood is a full time pro firefighter in Takapuna, but grew up in Warkworth before joining the fire brigade and moving just down the coast, where she also had a spell playing lock for the Black Ferns.
Wood has joined 12 other crew members from nine fire stations across NZ for the first Wāhine Toa Firefighter Calendar, which the women say “celebrates the strength, pride and femininity of our wāhine in uniform”. All proceeds from the $20 calendar will go to Breast Cancer Care.
Meanwhile, the more traditional male firefighter calendar is also back again, this time raising funds for men’s mental health movement Movember.
