Mangawhai Lions is asking the community to donate handbags for the Love Grace appeal, in memory of British traveller Grace Millane, who was murdered in Auckland in 2018.
This is the third year the national campaign has been run.
People are encouraged to donate handbags filled with essential items for women in need. Suggested items include shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant and other personal care products. Optional items may include sanitary products, sunscreen, moisturiser, nail polish, lip balm, playing cards, jewellery, a small first aid kit, face masks, tissues, wipes, hair ties, a hairbrush, a purse or sunglasses.
Donors are asked to avoid including opened or used items, damaged products, money, food, sharp items, clothing, candles, medication, lighters or alcohol.
Handbags can be left at either the Hospice Shop at 41 Moir Street or the Community Op Shop at 5 Wood Street. The drop-off deadline in Mangawhai is March 6.
Once collected, the handbags will be distributed to women’s refuges throughout New Zealand.
