Anyone with a bright idea or innovative invention should block out October 20 to 24 in their diary, as the first Auckland Startup Week is being held across a number of city centre venues.
The Auckland Council event aims to connect individual and company startups at all stages with founders, investors and industry leaders, and highlight the city as a leading region for tech and innovation.
The event is being run in association with investment firms, entrepreneurs, research institutes, corporates and universities, and sessions include a founders’ clinic, an introduction to exporting, and how to raise funding and upscale globally.
There will also be flagship events showcasing groundbreaking innovation and plenty of networking opportunities.
Auckland Startup Week venues include generator spaces Pipiri Lane and GridAKL Startup Hub in Wynyard Quarter; Shed 10 on the waterfront; the University of Auckland; the Newmarket Innovation Precinct; and Auckland Town Hall.
Speakers will share insights and give advice on successful startups and raising capital, while some of Auckland’s most promising startups and innovators will showcase ideas and emerging technology at a special demo day on Monday, October 20.
There is also a chance to explore research and innovation from the ground up during a tour of the University of Auckland’s Newmarket Precinct. This is a rare behind-the-scenes look at Auckland’s top innovation hub where startups, research and industry collide.
General manager of council’s Economic Development Office Pam Ford says the first Auckland Startup Week will cater for startups in various stages of development, with most events free to attend, and will showcase the city’s position as a place for startups to thrive.
