Gold Coin gift shop to close

The business moved to its current location at 17 Elizabeth Street after the Covid-19 pandemic.

After 21 years, Gold Coin gift shop will close its doors in Warkworth in September.

Owner Winnie Baek, who has run the business for the past 15 years, said a recent decline in customers, worsened by the ongoing works on Elizabeth Street, led to the decision.

“While last year was challenging in terms of sales, the business was still profitable,” Baek said. “The shift to online shopping post-COVID and the general economic downturn made things tough, but the prolonged Watercare works and neighbouring shops moving away were the final push for our closure.”

Baek made the decision a few months ago after she was unable to pay the rent from June onwards.

“I’m incredibly grateful to all of our wonderful customers. It has been such a joy watching local children grow up over the years. I’ve always been a naturally shy person, so I may not have always been able to show just how much your support and kind check-ins have meant to me, but I hope you know how deeply I appreciate them. We ask for your continued warmth and support as we enter our final days here.”

The shop will remain open for a few more weeks, with 30 per cent discounts available before it closes permanently.
