A little shop with a lot of soul is moving to bigger premises in Moir Street Mangawhai.
Owner of Little Soul Co, Kate Waldock, will open her new aromatherapy and gift shop at 21 Moir Street today (December 1). She hopes the higher profile site, so much closer to the village, will encourage more people to discover both her aromatherapy therapies and her range of mostly locally sourced gifts.
Although Kate has been an aromatherapy practitioner for around 25 years, it was a cancer diagnosis in 2018 that spurred her into making a range of blends and formulations to help people with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
“I felt so sick during the six weeks of chemo so I made myself an anti-nausea salt pot,” she says. “I was also stressed and finding it hard to sleep so, again, I used my own aromatherapy knowledge to come up with remedies.
“One of the things I love most about my shop is being able to share these remedies and help others.”
Kate is well-known to Mangawhai locals as one of the original Mangawhai Tavern Market stallholders. Her new shop is not far from the tavern so she plans to open on Saturday mornings so she can still service the market crowd.
As well as her aromatherapy range, her new store stocks an eclectic range of gifts by craftsmen such Waipipi Designz, Cre8tion by Glenys, Creative Candles and photography by Andy Bruce, as well as jewellery, crystals, homewares and cookbooks.
“Aromatherapy has always been my passion – not only are they made with care and a lot of research to ensure they are effective, but they smell beautiful, too.”
