Physiotherapist Marina Shannon isn’t just getting people moving, as the owner of Movewell Physio in Warkworth she recently relocated the clinic to a larger, purpose-built space for her patients.
“I got to custom design the interior. The architect tweaked a few things but it’s almost identical to the original drawings. You have a dream to one day run your own practice and now it’s a reality,” she says.
The shift to Kowhai House has allowed the clinic to expand its facilities, with two full time physios, a personal trainer, six consult rooms and a 65sqm rehabilitation gym, which Shannon says is pretty exciting. That’s because rehabilitation is prioritised alongside consults.
“You don’t want to just band-aid problems, you want to see people reach their potential. So we go on a journey with our patients, not only to get them out of pain, but also to help them achieve their goals, whether they’re nine or 90.”
Marina first joined Movewell straight from Auckland University of Technology after graduating in 2018, and took over running the Warkworth clinic two years ago.
“We’ve been here for the best part of a decade, and as Warkworth has increased in size, so too has the business – being in a bigger space allows us to look after the growing community.
“I love the challenge. I always wanted to own my own clinic,” she says.
