The familiar faces of Raj and Monika Chugh from Ship and Anchor have set sail only a couple of minutes away to a new spot on the Coast. Although they’re still captaining the Ship and Anchor, they’re excited to bring a new eatery to the Ōrewa shoreline.
Surf & Sounds sits on Hibiscus Coast Highway, across the road from the surf club. Along with a spacious interior for undercover dining, a large outdoor area for summer is ready for families, work functions, and casual dining alike.
Since purchasing the property in September, they’ve been hard at work turning the building into a place of their own. Later this month they’ll be hosting their official grand opening, inviting everyone to enjoy live music and order from their carefully selected menu. From prawns to linguine, fish and chips to tacos, their menu offers something for everyone.
Their journey began in India, with Raj working as an IT Worker and Monika in a five star hotel. They moved to New Zealand in 2011, and to the Hibiscus Coast in 2013. Throughout their time at Ship and Anchor they’ve established themselves as friendly faces on the Coast.
At first, they weren’t looking for another ship to sail, though it was hard not to when they saw the beautiful property. Although looking after two places is a heavy workload, Raj and Monika are more than happy to take on that challenge.
“All we’re asking is that people come and give us a try,” Raj says.
They look forward to welcoming people in, with their doors open and menu at the ready.
