Coast pharmacies on board with Covid jabs

Unichem Manly and Life Pharmacy Ōrewa have been added to a list of pharmacies that can give the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination, although it is likely to be a few weeks before the jabs are available there.

Pharmacist Tania Adams of Unichem Manly says “there are a few hoops to jump through first”.

Her pharmacy, in Manly Village, already has trained vaccinators but has to train other staff to assist in the process and also pass a DHB audit before it can offer the vaccine. Tania says the audit is expected to take place at her pharmacy later this month.

Pharmacist Antony Wentworth of Life Pharmacy Ōrewa says they expect to be underway with Covid jabs in around three weeks.

The two pharmacies join around 38 others in the Auckland and Waitemata DHB area that have been offered contracts as part of the vaccine rollout.

Currently the local providers are Ōrewa Medical Centre, Silverdale Medical (at its Weiti clinic) and Hibiscus Coast Medical Centre. Ōrewa Medical Centre is already vaccinating the general public, while Hibiscus and Silverdale are both currently working through their registered patients before they can open up the service to the wider community.

In addition, Manly Medical Centre in Manly Village has begun testing for Covid-19, offering the service to its patients and the public. Anyone needing a test must phone 09 424 9050 to make an appointment before coming to be tested. Testing is done as a drive-through at the back of the medical centre, with people being swabbed through the car window. The practice asks for the public’s patience and kindness as high demand is expected.
