Warkworth Town Hall was filled with a riot of summer colour last Friday, February 14, when the town’s Garden Club held its annual flower and produce show.
Show convenor Annette Sharp said the number of entries and competitors was well up on last year, with a particularly strong showing in the fruit and vege section. A new class for pickles and preserves also proved popular, with around 50 entries, all of which were tasted and judged by food writer and Mahurangi Matters columnist Lauraine Jacobs.
Club treasurer Gloria Wilmot swept the scoreboard, winning trophies for achieving most points in three sections – Preserves, Fruit & Vegetables and Overall. Other trophy winners were Noelene Pyle (Dahlias), Sally Greenwood (General Flowers & Foliage), Krista Fletcher (President’s Choice), Shirley Shirley (Best in Show). Helen Potter of Heritage Lane won the trophy for Best Garden from the Street, while Green by Nature, Joy Bell and Te Kohinga Mahara riverside light installation shared the award for best Aestehetic Contribution to Warkworth.
