One of Warkworth’s best-loved Christmas traditions is back on Saturday evening, December 13, when Carols by Candlelight takes place at Lucy Moore Memorial Park.
Organised jointly by Warkworth Rotary and the WBB Big Band, the evening will feature classic Christmas carols and other festive favourites for everyone to sing along with.
The substantial WBB brass section will be belting out the tunes with the Warkworth Primary School choir, supported by community performers including Matakantata, the Warkworth Primary kapa haka group and Mahurangi College Jazz Combo, as well as a special fire performance by Noah Barclay.
As is traditional, they will all be performing on a stage set up in the carpark at the end of Baxter Street while the audience, complete with songsheets, will be seated on the slopes of Lucy Moore Park.
Warkworth Primary principal Karney Dawson and Matakantata musical director Jenny Eirena will share MC duties and Warkworth Scouts will sell sausages, drinks and glow-sticks.
Rotary president Lily Watson says Carols by Candlelight is the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.
“Bring your own blanket, water and some money for a sausage and enjoy the festive, family atmosphere,” she says.
The concert is free, though sponsorship or donations to cover the cost of songsheets and hiring toilets would be appreciated by Rotary.
Carols by Candlelight starts at 8pm and runs for around an hour.
Donations to Rotary can be made to Rotary Club of the Warkworth District Charitable Trust, 02-0480-0013221-001
