College art exhibition draws strong support

Whangaparāoa College senior art students showcased their work to the school community at the college’s Senior Art Print Exhibition on September 9.

The exhibition, held in the Visual Art Department, featured painting, photography and design, along with students’ work-in-progress portfolios for external assessment.

Prints of selected artworks were also available for sale, giving visitors the opportunity to support the young artists and take home examples of their work.

Whangaparāoa College visual arts head of department Sam Pilkington says the exhibition attracted a strong turnout from whānau, friends and members of the college community.

“We were really pleased with the support from our school community,” Pilkington says.

Charlie Cannell was named Top in Show, while Kiki Cheng received the award for Top in Painting. Pita Sandor was named Top in Photography and Fox Mackintosh Top in Design.

Macey Bennett won the People’s Choice Award, which was decided by visitors to the exhibition.

Industry professionals judged the main categories, with prizes sponsored by National Art Supplies and Gordon Harris.

Pilkington thanked the sponsors and those who attended for supporting the students and their work.
