The Less Waste recycling centre at Lawrie Road, near Snells Beach, has two festive weekend workshops and a late night shopping session in the run-up to Christmas.
First up is the chance to make your own Christmas wreath with Shelly Gray from Tinker Designs on Sunday, November 29.
Using upcycled fabrics and simple techniques, she will show how to create attractive, eco-friendly wreaths during the workshop, which runs from 10.30am to 1pm.
Then, on Thursday, December 4, Less Waste will be staying open late for Christmas shopping, from 4pm to 8pm. For one night only, there will be a 20 per cent discount on all items in store, from vintage treasures and pre-loved clothing to homeware, books, gifts, building supplies, tools, bikes and more.
Organisers say they want to encourage more people to shop secondhand this Christmas for several reasons.
“It’s eco-friendly – you can reduce waste and give items a second life. It’s budget-friendly – a way to save money without compromising on quality. And it’s one-of-a-kind – we have unique gifts you won’t see anywhere else.”
Finally, on Sunday, December 6, Shelly Gray will be back at the Less Waste Learning Hub at 10.30am to demonstrate how to transform a range of upcycled and natural materials into Christmas tree decorations.
She says all ages are welcome to learn how to repurpose everyday things into beautiful items that are also kind to the planet.
